Glimpses of Kerala can be found in certain specific things. It càn be an art Eg:Raja Ravi Varma's Paintings, Dance Eg:Kathakali and many more but the humble, thorny yet sweet and plump jars of honey hanging on a tick stem in a vast expanse of greens takes the cake. No wonder keralites have starting cutting it to celebrate their birthdays and its declared as the State Fruit. Yes, I am referring to the Mighty Yet Humble (It always has its head bowed down) - The Jackfruit. While most of them relish the sweet yellow sticky muscles of the fruit, seldom it's seeds have been given any importance. Some traditional Kerala families have retained and passed on the treasure of cooking the Jackfruit Seeds. My Dad's mom..Kaveriamma was one such miracle chef. She woved magic with the Jackfruit Seed. The comman man's Almonds as we call it in our household, when cooked at the right state of the seed with minimal of accompaniments leaves a taste which leave behind the most tastiest savoury snacks you would have had. The best way to have is on a rainy pouring day. When the rains lay their beats on the tiles of a typical native house in Kerala, a plate of hot red rice porridge accompanied by the spicy roasted Jackfruit seeds in coconut oil with a Kandari Chilli and Mango pickle...Let me tell you it's bliss...Its the perfect supper...Today, in honour of my grandmom and my dad who perfected it for us..I present you the Humble Jackfruit Seed.....SRN.
